Icelandic classical guitarist Svanur Vilbergsson is rapidly gaining recognition as one of the most promising young performers of his instrument. As a two-time recipient of grants from the Cultural Council of Iceland, he has given concerts in the Schoenberg-Hall of The Hague (Holland), the Bonnenfanten Museum (Maastricht, Holland), Escola Luthier of Barcelona (Spain), and the Great Hall of Devon (England). He is a regular guest artist for the Casa Eulalia Concert Series in Mallorca, Spain, and was selected to take part in The Gulf Stream Project, a series of concerts in Norway as part of the Icelandic-Norwegian cultural exchange program. Recent performances include recitals in Boston, Seattle, and Majorca, where he played the premiere of a commissioned work by Mateu Malondra Flaquer.
Vilbergsson holds a Bachelor's degree from the Maastricht Conservatory (Holland), where he studied with Carlo Marchione and had Chamber Music studies with cellist Alexander Petrasch and violist Henk Guittart. His other teachers have included Arnaldur Arnarsson (Escola Luthier, Spain) and Enno Voorhorst, with whom he attained his Master's degree from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (Holland).
The remainder of the concert season features recitals at the Foundling Museum in London, the Klanken Festival of Maastricht, and the King's Chapel Concert Series in Boston as well as a series of outreach concerts for the Musicians Worldwide Foundation of the Netherlands. In addition to his concerts throughout Europe and the USA, Svanur Vilbergsson continues to perform on the most visible stages in his native country, playing at the Reykjavik Town Hall at the Culture Night Festival and also performing in the Musical Hour Concert Series in Egilsstadir and in the Blue Church Concert Series in Seydisfjordur.
